Advancing Early Detection of Retinoblastoma: Arclight Distribution & Awareness Program
In observance of World Retinoblastoma Awareness Week (May 12–18, 2024), Khopa Tilganga Eye Center, in collaboration with Open Eyes Nepal, organized an "Arclight Distribution and Retinoblastoma Awareness Program" on May 9th in Bhaktapur.
The Arclight device, which helps detect white eye reflex, an early sign of Retinoblastoma, was distributed to 17 participants, including school and community nurses from Bhaktapur and Thimi Municipality. These nurses received specialized training from Dr. Purnima R. Sthapit and Dr. Sudeep Rajbhandari, equipping them with the skills to identify early symptoms of Retinoblastoma in children.
A similar training session was conducted on March 13th, 2024, for 21 home-visit nurses, further strengthening early detection efforts within communities.
We extend our sincere gratitude to #RotaryKenmore, Rotary Club of Kenmore (District 9620), Australia, and Open Eyes Global, Australia, for generously funding this vital initiative. Through collaboration and awareness, we aim to enhance early detection and treatment accessibility, ultimately saving the vision and lives of children affected by Retinoblastoma.
